Set up Shop

The tinkling threat of local regeneration became a deafening crash during the recent storms, as a long-out-of-date "For Sale" sign came away from next door's wall and in through my studio sky-light. The glass smashing down and embedding into my (very nice) 60's table gave me quite a jump.
After some panic I decided to call the number on the sign (!) and eventually the sign company came to patch it up. Not it seems to much effect as evidenced by Karen's now wet laptop left on the table below.

My own guilty part in the dubious gentrification of Well St. can currently be seen documented at Hackney Museum. The film Len Cook & I made together is showing there as part of "Set up Shop - From Hoxton to Homerton, Haberdashery to Hair Extensions". It's only a modest short but it's an affectionate portrait of Len & records a day we spent together before he retired - also one of the last days of the building as a working Pie 'n' Mash shop. Look out for the shocking 'liquor' close-up!
